Research Assistant
Research Assistant with Background in Education, Social Learning, and Information Science (Half Moon Bay)
The Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) invites candidates who want to work in a highly collaborative environment that involves participation in research projects that cross education, social learning, information science, technology, and knowledge collaboration. ISKME is an independent nonprofit educational research institute that conducts social science research, develops research-based tools and resources, and convenes field building and innovation initiatives with the goal of helping individuals and educational institutions support inquiry and continuous improvement.
ISKME seeks a full-time Research Assistant to become an integral part of its dynamic research team, involving the conceptualization, design, and implementation of grantfunded research projects, while also assisting with other project-related activities. The key responsibilities of the position are to:
• Assist in the development and implementation of surveys, focus groups and other data collection
• Analyze qualitative and quantitative data using statistical methods and qualitative and quantitative software
• Support writing and dissemination for research reports, articles and conference presentations
• Support grant and proposal writing efforts for research projects, as well as for ISKME’s field building and innovation initiatives, which often involve research components:
The desired candidate has research interests in how information use and social learning can facilitate teaching, learning, and organizational change in the educational sector. A strong interest in open source and open content, Web-based technologies, and implementation of learning systems is also desired
Qualifications:
• A Master’s degree in education, information science, anthropology, or in a social
science related field
• Minimum of 1year of academic or organizational research experience
• Skilled in qualitative and/or quantitative methodologies and associated software
• Excellent critical thinking skills
• Solid writing and editing skills
• Familiarity with the education sector and an understanding of current education and learning-related issues
• Familiarity with tools and software to turn complex information into visual formats
• A fearless approach to computer and Web-based technologies
• The ability to work well and thrive in a collaborative problem-solving environment while also showing the ability to work independently, juggle multiple priorities and deadlines, and accomplish tasks on time
• Strong facilitation and presentation skills
