Bio: 

Dr. Carol Hedgspeth received her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and M.S. in Social Psychology from Howard University in Washington D.C, and received her B.S. in Psychology from University of California at Berkeley. Prior to joining ISKME, she was Assistant Professor in Morgan State University’s Department of Psychology in Baltimore, MD, where she taught Psychology of Learning, Experimental Psychology, and Statistics I and II. Carol has an extensive professional background in education outside of academia. She served for 2 years as Vice President of Research Operations at Cogent Integrations, LLC., a small minority-owned information technology firm that specializes in distance learning, professional training, and creation of personalized learning management systems. For more than 6 years, Carol was a Research Analyst at the American Institutes for Research’s Education Statistics Services Institute (ESSI), where she conducted evaluative research on education programs implemented by the U.S. Department of Education. Carol currently manages projects at ISKME that focus primarily on the measurement of knowledge sharing and collaboration in online learning communities of practice. Carol is originally from Berkeley, CA, and is married with three daughters.

What are the biggest opportunities for change in education?: 

Listening to student voices, and responding (and being proactive) in meeting their needs directly.

What does collaboration mean to you?: 

Collaboration means working with others towards a common goal, resulting in creation of new knowledge for everyone involved.

What's your most memorable ISKME moment?: 

Relaxing with colleagues after hours at Big Ideas Fest 2010.
