Bio:

Kari L. Jones is an award-winning writer with a BA in Creative Writing (University of Michigan), an MA in English Literature (Wayne State University) and coursework toward an MFA in Fiction (University of Oregon). She hails from Detroit, where she spent years turning "engineering-speak" into compelling copy for Ford Motor Company and chronicling arts for Detroit's Metro Times. Now based on the West Coast, Kari has written for a variety of clients, including non-profit Lost Valley Educational Center, the Sacred Heart Medical Center Foundation, and LibertyBank.

What does collaboration mean to you?:

After six hours, four cups of coffee, countless rounds of "What if ...?" and a lot of laughter — with a room full of creative people — a half-baked idea that emerges in the morning can become a full-blown work of pure genius. So I think collaboration means listening as much as it does speaking. It involves letting go of "control" and allowing ideas to grow and take shape as each voice contributes a layer to what would have otherwise been a much less rich concept.

What's your most memorable ISKME moment?:

An earthquake -- the only earthquake I've ever experienced -- on my very first day working with ISKME.
