Bio:

Rudy Rubio received his B.A. degree in Public Policy and Master's degree in International Education Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University. Rudy has a passion for working with organizations focused on increasing access to education for students. His monograph research focused on comparing opportunities to learn and teacher quality in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Bahrain and the impact of these factors on international mathematics scores. Before joining ISKME, Rudy volunteered as a writing tutor for several years in East Palo Alto, worked with the International Visitor Leadership Program at IIE/West Coast, and studied Arabic at the Middlebury at Mills program in Oakland, CA.

What are the biggest opportunities for change in education?:

Bringing technology into K-12 classrooms remains to be fully realized in the U.S. (or any country for that matter). The potential to use new resources to engage learners in different and more challenging ways through the use of online and technolgical resources is tremendous -- and necessary -- in today's knowledge-driven culture; however, have yet to be understood enough to scale and push this type of reform forward. But I'm hopeful!

What does collaboration mean to you?:

Coming together as a team, sharing ideas, editing, and moving forward together to the next level of thinking. Rinse, repeat.

What's your most memorable ISKME moment?:

My first day of work at ISKME was in the middle of "ISKME in the House week." Within two hours of arriving at the office for the first time since my in-person interview, I was participating in team-building improv activities. I acted like a bigger dork in front of coworkers I was meeting for the first time than I did in front of my boyfriend after 3 months of dating.
