The Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) seeks candidates capable of engaging in a highly collaborative environment that involves conducting research and managing research projects that cut across education innovation, information science, social learning and knowledge collaboration. ISKME is an independent nonprofit educational research institute that conducts social science research, develops research-based tools and resources, and convenes field building and innovation initiatives with the goal of helping individuals and educational institutions support inquiry and continuous improvement.

ISKME seeks a full-time Senior Research Associate to become an integral part of its dynamic team, involving the conceptualization, design, and implementation of applied research projects that involve the enhancement and facilitation of knowledge sharing communities (online and face-to-face) and the development of research-based tools and engagement strategies. The desired candidate has research interests in how information sharing and knowledge collaboration can facilitate continuous learning and change in educational settings (from research to practice, to policy).

A strong interest in open source and open content, Web-based technologies, and implementation of learning systems is also desired.

Key responsibilities are to:

•    Design and implement social science research to support the development of community building and knowledge sharing strategies, as well as the evaluation and assessment of collaboration and learning.

•    Conduct research that can be applied to the creation of content, tools, and strategies specifically, but not limited to, higher education.

•    Design and facilitate research-based processes, workshops, and interactions for online virtual collaboration and social networking environments in order to build and sustain knowledge management/continuous learning into their practices.

•    Present project findings and outcomes at conferences, in writing, and formal and informal project meetings.


Required Qualifications:

•    A PhD in education, information or library science, organizational learning or other related social science fields

•    Minimum of 5 years academic or organizational research experience

•    Minimum of 5 years project management experience and the ability to design and implement integrated project plans

•    Solid expertise within a Web 2.0 environment, including community-building

•    Familiarity with the education sector and an understanding of current education and learning-related issues; expertise in the area of higher education and education policy a plus

•    Proven ability to plan and execute resourcefully, with minimal supervision, multiple projects simultaneously, and work effectively in a fast-paced, fluid environment

•    Strong facilitation and presentation skills, and the ability to speak effectively with client teams, senior project stakeholders, and funders

•    The ability to thrive in a collaborative problem-solving environment while also working independently, juggling multiple priorities and deadlines, and accomplishing tasks on time

•    Exemplary interpersonal skills

•    Excellent writing and editing ability, and critical thinking skills

•    The ability to turn complex information into visual formats using web-based or other digital tools is a plus


ISKME is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, approximately 35 minutes south of San Francisco, in Half Moon Bay.
