Professional Development

Overview

ISKME offers professional development for K-16 administrations and faculty to share:

  • Models and methodologies of knowledge-based decision making
  • Surveys of innovative knowledge management projects
  • Techniques for assessing information culture
  • Case studies of data and information management initiatives across sectors
  • Tools and technologies available to and used by schools, colleges, and universities for supporting knowledge sharing processes

We seek to partner with schools, districts, county boards of education, regional and state initiatives, and teacher education centers at colleges and universities to develop and offer training programs and support.

Our Approach

In our work around Open Educational Resources, or OER, ISKME catalyzes teachers and learners in the shift from a consumer culture for educational resources, to one in which teachers gain leadership and support to adapt and develop resources for their own needs, and then share those resources with others. ISKME works directly with teachers and students to engage with learning resources through processes that a) involve continuous improvement, b) require collaboration and social learning, and c) build expertise from within and from the bottom-up.

Currently Underway

In our Professional Development programs, ISKME trains teachers to use, create, and collaborate using OER materials, Web 2.0 social networking processes, while integrating them into generative, interdisciplinary, or socially relevant pedagogies and subject matter. ISKME also offers workshops for faculty that focuses on the development and implementation of knowledge management practices that can be used to support faculty interests in teaching and research. The purpose of these workshops is to help faculty meet the challenges confronting them around issues such as: collaboration and research; curriculum design and instruction; and incentives and rewards.
