The Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) creates opportunities for educational programs, institutions, and systems, from K-12 schools to colleges and universities, to develop, improve, and use resources to advance learning and success. ISKME also assists philanthropic organizations and government agencies to examine and improve their own internal processes for continuous improvement, evaluation, and learning. All of ISKME's projects are oriented toward practice-based outcomes, so that educational institutions can develop their own knowledge-driven strategies to advance learning and success. Research
ISKME’s research and evaluations examine processes, practices, and outcomes to improve, understand, and enhance educational impact—across functions, departments, institutions, grantees, or systems. As an independent, nonpartisan organization, ISKME also assists in understanding the impact and development of federal, state, and systemwide policies to support knowledge-driven decision-making in schools and on campus.
Innovations
ISKME develops and shares innovations by creating research-based tools, frameworks, and resources that support knowledge-sharing, community building, knowledge-driven decision making, and continuous learning practices. An example is OER Commons, a teaching and learning network that expands educational opportunities for all by increasing access to high-quality, freely available educational materials online.
Field Building
Sustainable and innovative approaches to learning are shifting the nature of education as we know it. ISKME facilitates the transformation of research into practice by supporting and enlivening the exchange of knowledge and expertise among researchers and practitioners—through its research, strategic planning, partnerships, convenings, professional development, technology development, and other field building activities.
