A series of 3 intensive sessions designed to build leadership capacity in OER Programs in order to increase the use of Accessibility Best Practices

ISKME invites teams of faculty and staff at Institutions of Higher Education to discover how to design their Open Educational Resource (OER) programs to ensure that accessibility is intentionally addressed so that all learners can reach their full potential.

Our Designing OER Programs to Increase Accessibility Practices series focuses on the designers and leaders of OER Programming/Grants at their institution.

The Series will focus on the following:

  • Week 1 – (July 7-11) Welcome –  Building Background Knowledge of Accessibility Best Practices Asynchronous work using a provided tool for building background knowledge on accessibility best practices such as Styles, Links, Images, Design and Evaluate (based on the SLIDE protocol from CAST). Participants will also explore using the Accessibility Checker in OER Commons.
  • Week 2 – (July 14-18) Addressing Accessibility Gaps in OER Programs Two Hour Live Webinar on July 16 at 1pm ET – Collaborative exploration of a provided OER, with a focus on understanding accessible OER image best practices and addressing accessibility gaps in resources
  • Week 3 – (July 21-25) Analyzing the OER Landscape and Articulating Accessibility Goals for Impact Two Hour Live Webinar on July 23 at 1pm ET – Collaborative analysis of a provided OER landscape and sample accessibility programming with time to localize an OER Landscape Protocol for organizational gaps
  • Week 4 – (July 28-Aug 1) OER Program Design and Accessibility Next Steps for Transformation Two Hour Live Webinar on July 30 at 1pm ET – Collaborative discussion of a sample OER Program Design and suggested accessibility supports to develop plans for strategic implementation

Throughout the four-week series, cohorts will receive access to a curated set of high quality resources to review and adapt for use in their own settings. Cohorts that complete the series  will have an opportunity to  present at a national summit alongside CAST and ISKME. Each individual participant of the series will receive a certificate of completion.

We encourage cohorts of 2-4 faculty and staff that represent diverse lived experiences, classroom expertise, and current educational roles. Consider building your team with representatives from full-time faculty, part-time faculty, disability services, ed tech, assistive technology, library media, and administration. The cohort will explore modifying a variety of resources – with a focus on syllabi and entire textbooks.

The cost of the series is $1,000 for cohorts of up to four participants. Institutions can have up to three cohorts. Register here by July 1st. If you have any questions, please contact Joanna Schimizzi (joanna@iskme.org).
