Amee Evans Godwin
Director, Strategic Initiatives
Amee Evans Godwin brings over a decade of experience in applied research and development of community and personalization applications. Her product and strategic marketing work focuses on technology, education, and collaboration. At ISKME, she guides the development and implementation of educational applications and programs that integrate collaboration and knowledge sharing, in addition to continued development of education programs and partnerships for OER Commons(www.oercommons.org), an online network for open teaching and learning content. A director of award-winning video documentaries, Amee earned a Master Degree from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program at Tisch School of the Arts. Formerly, at the Interval Research Corporation, she worked in development of new media applications before joining their spin-off company, ePlanet, as Senior Product Marketing Manager. Later, as Program Director at the community-led Sanchez Art Center, she managed outreach and education programs. Prior to joining ISKME, she was Creative Director in web production and a consultant to Media-Screen, San Francisco, in strategic market research for high tech firms and non-profit organizations. She completed a Fellowship in the Arts Leadership for the Future program for emerging non-profit leaders and community builders. amee@iskme.org
Carol Hedgspeth, Ph.D.
Senior Research Associate
Dr. Carol Hedgspeth received her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and M.S. in Social Psychology from Howard University in Washington D.C, and received her B.S. in Psychology from University of California at Berkeley. Prior to joining ISKME, she was Assistant Professor in Morgan State University’s Department of Psychology in Baltimore, MD, where she taught Psychology of Learning, Experimental Psychology, and Statistics I and II. Carol has an extensive professional background in education outside of academia. She served for 2 years as Vice President of Research Operations at Cogent Integrations, LLC., a small minority-owned Information technology firm that specializes in distance learning, professional training, and creation of personalized learning management systems. For more than 6 years, Carol was a Research Analyst at the American Institutes for Research’s Education Statistics Services Institute (ESSI), where she conducted evaluative research on education programs implemented by the U.S. Department of Education. Carol is originally from Berkeley, CA, and is married with three daughters. carol@iskme.org
Charli Micallef
Executive Assistant
Charli Micallef, Executive Assistant (to the president), has spent over a decade in retail and management. Before coming to ISKME she worked for five years as the Accounts Manager for a property management and development company. She worked in retail management overseeing all aspects of operations and employee development. She attended the College of San Mateo where she completed training in bookkeeping and accounting. She brings to ISKME a love of adventure and the challenge of new tasks. charli@iskme.org
Clare Middleton-Detzner
Research Associate
Clare Middleton-Detzner received her Master’s degree in Public Policy from the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Before joining ISKME, Clare was a Research Associate with the Humphrey Institute’s Public and Nonprofit Leadership Center, where her academic research focused on cross-sector collaboration and nonprofit management, governance and accountability, and policy implementation. Clare brings several years experience in fund-raising, development and nonprofit program management. Clare received her B.A. in Sociology from Mills College in Oakland, CA. clare@iskme.org
Cynthia Jimes, Ph.D.
Director of Research
Cynthia Jimes received her Ph.D. in Information Science from Uppsala University in Sweden. Her academic research focused on how both face-to-face and technology-driven communication play a role in organizational learning and innovation. Before joining ISKME, Cynthia worked as an education data specialist at GreatSchools.net and focused on providing parents with information to inform their school choice and school improvement efforts. While living in Sweden and the Netherlands, she also worked in the management consulting sector as a researcher and consultant. Cynthia’s research interests include how communication and employee perceptions are related to the creation of the organization, and how online communities create content collaboratively. She is also interested in research on the integration of parents and students into school and district knowledge management models. cynthia@iskme.org
Greg Dekoenigsberg
Chief Technology Officer
Greg DeKoenigsberg is the Chief Technology Officer for ISKME. He was previously Senior Community Architect for Red Hat. He is a former chairman of the Fedora Project, an open source software development community with thousands of volunteer contributors. He serves on the advisory boards of several open source advocacy organizations, writes about open source issues, and speaks at open source events worldwide. greg@iskme.org
Julie Walling
Research Assistant
Julie Walling received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Sociology from Stanford University. Upon completion of her Master’s degree she relocated to New Zealand where she worked for two years for the Maori tribe, Waikato-Tainui, completing the groundwork for a tribal survey. On her return to the Bay Area, she entered the online space where she worked as a search engine marketer managing paid online advertising campaigns. julie@iskme.org
Lisa McLaughlin
OER Commons Manager
Lisa McLaughlin is OER Commons Manager at ISKME, where she facilitates user experience design, global OER partnerships, and synthesizes outreach and communications between ISKME’s research and education arms and OER Commons. Lisa received dual Masters Degrees from the University of Michigan in Information Science (MSI) and Management of Human Services (MSW). Her background and interests include social and open innovation, community informatics, social experience design, social media, and cross-sector collaboration. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Michigan.lisam@iskme.org
Lisa Petrides, Ph.D.
President
Lisa Petrides, Ph.D. is president and founder of the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME), an independent non-profit educational research institute located in Half Moon Bay, CA. Her research seeks to inform and improve the ways in which those in formal and informal education foster the creation and sharing of information, apply it to well-defined problems, and create knowledge-driven environments focused on improved learning and organizational success. Petrides also leads OER Commons (www.oercommons.org), an open source teaching and learning network that supports and facilitates the creation, sharing, and modification of open educational resources. A former visiting scholar at Stanford University and professor in the Department of Organization and Leadership at Columbia University, Teachers College, her research and teaching interests include information science, decision-making, and issues of access and equity in education. She received a Ph.D. in Education from Stanford University and an MBA from Sonoma State University, and was a postdoctoral fellow in Educational Policy Research Division at Educational Testing Service. lisa@iskme.org
Megan Simmons
Education Program Manager
Megan Simmons supports the development of education programs, workshops, and training activities for the OER Commons project.She has a B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of San Francisco. Before coming to ISKME, she spent seven years teaching and managing education programs in both formal and informal settings throughout California and in the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. She is particularly passionate about providing environmental education and art programs to underserved communities nationally and internationally. megan@iskme.org
Robert Beamer
Office Manager
Robert Beamer brings to ISKME a strong background in customer service and retail management. A Northwest native, he has also worked in sales and operations for Nordstrom, Big Pagoda, and Henry Beguelin, just to name a few. Throughout his career he has managed programs for employee motivation, corporate fundraising, and is interested in how people interact and share in their work environment. As an artist, Robert uses painting as a means of communication and relaxation, and as a way to better his understanding of everyday life. robert@iskme.org
Rudy Rubio
Research Assistant
Rudy Rubio received his B.A. degree in Public Policy and Master’s degree in International Education Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University. His monograph research focused on comparing opportunities to learn and teacher quality in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Bahrain and the impact of these factors on international mathematics scores. Before joining ISKME, Rudy worked with the International Visitor Leadership Program at the Institute of International Education in San Francisco helping to program events and meetings for international leaders visiting the Bay Area. He also had the opportunity to study Arabic at the Middlebury at Mills program in Oakland, CA, and is very interested in understanding the reconstruction of school systems in post-conflict areas. rudy@iskme.org
Samantha Wayne
Education Program Design & Facilitation
Samantha Wayne, Education Program Design & Facilitation at ISKME, loves contributing to the growth, creativity, and collaboration of communities. Samantha received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Denver and her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Franklin & Marshall College. Her background includes: developing curriculum for unemployed adults learning the importance of networking, facilitating group therapy sessions, teaching Social Psychology and Social Research Methods at Foothill College, managing after school art programs, and building online youth communities. samanthaxwayne@gmail.com
Shenandoah Weiss
Project Coordinator, Research and Education Programs
Shenandoah Weiss received her MA in cultural anthropology from the University of Chicago. Most recently, she served as the Production Coordinator for the Stanford Jazz Workshop, a music education organization. Shenandoah has worked with a number of Bay Area schools and organizations on arts education and digital media projects, including the San Francisco Film Society, Citizen Film, and KQED. Shenandoah is extremely passionate about cross discipline research initiatives, as well as the power of community arts to resolve conflict, celebrate history, and transform dialogue. shenweiss@hotmail.com
