About ISKME

Mission

ISKME's mission is to understand and improve how schools, colleges, universities, and the organizations that support them build their capacity to collect and share information systematically, apply it to well-defined problems, and create knowledge-driven environments focused on learning and success.

Highlights

  • In December 2002, ISKME held the first summit on knowledge management in education that brought together business and education experts.
  • In March 2003, ISKME published the first monograph on knowledge management in education, which has been downloaded by thousands of people in over 80 countries around the globe.
  • ISKME has published books, articles, and case studies based on its work, and has given numerous presentations and workshops throughout the educational community.
  • ISKME develops new applications and frameworks for educators, administrators, and students by incorporating breakthrough technologies and real-life interaction models for knowledge sharing.

Founding ISKME

The Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) was founded in response to the pressing need for research and resources that could shed light on a number of internal and external challenges that impede the use of data to inform practice within education institutions. ISKME, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation was founded by Dr. Lisa Petrides, an education expert and former professor at Columbia University. ISKME works with a team of researchers and practitioners across the country who have the skills, experience, and expertise appropriate to each project that ISKME undertakes.
